October post #1

October is undoubtedly one of my favorite months of the year for it brings a sweet little bundle of joy widely regarded as Halloween. Now, I don't know what Halloween might mean for you (although I acknowledge several possibilities or the very lack of acknowledgment of such a holiday), but to me it means a time in which we celebrate all that is usually deemed despicable and in and of poor taste by the common folk. I personally celebrate my passion for horror films and the macabre.

This morning, before heading to the theater to watch Eastern Promises (which was fucking sweet), I stumbled across this nifty little site that has several relatively hi-res horror/suspense film-related images available, including original poster art which is what I'm really hyping anyhow.

I've decided that it be my goal this October to indulge in as many horror flicks as possible. I'd like for anyone who reads this shit to toss some recommendations my way. Tell me what I should be watching because there's not a slim chance that I've missed it. Let me borrow your old and busted VHS copies of b-movies or a title from your prestigiously obscure DVD collection. If this fails, I've always got the CHILLER network on DirectTV (which is the motherfucking bomb, by the way). It showcases now-defunct episodes of Tales From The Crypt, Twin Peaks, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The point is, I want to soak up as much filth and smut and ridiculously over-the-top gore and spine-tingling goodness as possible before the ol' holiday spirit leaves me. Don't be a dick.

So, speaking of interesting sites regarding Halloween (cite aforementioned site in second paragraph), I also ran into some polls and shit which is to be expected. One that really stuck with me for some reason was some submitter who ranked the exclusive Halloween-themed candies of 2007 in order of his preference. The number one candy was Mr. Yummy Skeleton Pops, which is apparently dollar store fare. Needless to say, some investigation is at hand here.

Another good bit likely to cause a ruckus between elitist asswards was a list of the 20 Best Zombie Movies according to retroCRUSH with attached video clips courtesy of Youtube. As follows:

20. White Zombie
19. Shock Waves

18. I Walked With A Zombie
17. Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
16. Day Of The Dead
15. Plan 9 From Outer Space
14. Versus
13. Night Of The Comet
12. Pet Semetary
11. Tombs Of The Blind Dead
10. Dead Alive
Cont'd.
Thoughts? I really want to see Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, have for a while. Other than that my only thoughts are that Day of the Dead should've made the list and Night Of The Comet be omitted because it's absolutely retarded. I found myself pretty content just because Lucio Fulci's Zombi 2 made an appearance somewhere.

Well, I hope people actually read this so I don't come across as extremely lonely. Hell, at least I'm talking about cool shit here and briefly avoiding the introspective babble and the quotes or paraphrasing that only I most likely have any sentimental attachment to.

'Till next time,
MLK IV

PS: What's everyone doing for Halloween? Don't answer this if you're going to see The Smashing Pumpkins at the Fox.

I recently purchased "50 Drive in Horrors" on a three disc special edition for only twelve dollars. Since this too is my favorite month out of the year, I think we should indulge in disgusting amounts of candy, and blissful amounts of B-gore movies.

love.
